Luke Halpin
About this site

The Luke Halpin Gallery debuted in October 1999 as a standalone website dedicated to the 1960s teen actor Luke Halpin.

The website's creator, cpps90, has kept the site in continuous operation since its beginning.

Early Days
Most of the earliest pictures on the site were collected from around the web and submitted from other fans.

Shortly thereafter, The Luke Halpin Gallery began featuring its own original screencaps created from the VHS videos published in 1996.

These screencaps were created with a device called "Snappy" (sold by Play, Inc. in the 1990s) that attached between the VHS player and computer to create "snapshots" from the video.

Play, Inc. went out of business in 2001. So the website stayed relatively unchanged for several years.

DVD releases
In 2004, Flipper and Flipper's New Adventure were released on DVD for the first time. This was followed by the DVD releases of Season 1 (2007) and Season 2 (2010).

The considerable improvement in image quality of DVDs over VHS ushered in a new wave of work that would totally change the look of The Luke Halpin Gallery.

The old Snappy device was replaced by newer screencapping software, and the long process of replacing the old VHS caps with DVD caps began. With two feature films and 85 episodes (Luke did not appear in three episodes of Season 2), the entire job was, needless to say, very time- and labor-intensive.

In addition to screencaps, The Luke Halpin Gallery also featured scans of publicity pictures purchased online through eBay as well as articles from teen magazines like 16 and Tiger Beat. Fans have also contributed transcripts of Luke's other tv appearances.

Beginning in 2010, much of the work on The Luke Halpin Gallery revolved around two efforts: expansion of existing galleries, and the creation of the focus section The Remarkable Body of Luke Halpin.

Gallery Expansion
The first effort was the expansion of the existing galleries for selected episodes.

During the first wave of DVD scans, it was often necessary to give only superficial coverage of scenes in order to save time. But now that the initial run is complete, the focus has turned toward replacing some of the original galleries with more detailed sets of pictures.

The expanded galleries are considerably longer and more detailed (in some episodes, almost frame-by-frame detail in some scenes) than the original sets. The purpose was to provide the viewer a much better representation of Luke's work in a particular episode.

The first expanded episodes were in Season 2. But starting in 2011, more and more of the Season 1 episodes were expanded.

Season 3 was never released on DVD. So in 2014, an effort was begun to expand the Season 3 galleries by taking additional printscreens from the Hulu.com website. The galleries for Ep 79 "Aunt Martha" and Ep 85 "Devil Ray" received many additional pictures at this time.

But in Jan 2015, Hulu began to charge for the Flipper episodes, bringing the Season 3 work to a temporary halt.

In Nov 2015, a Hulu subscription was ordered, and expansion work was resumed. The first episode chosen for this renewed effort was Ep 73 "Alligator Duel."

The Season 3 expansion work is ongoing.

The Remarkable Body of Luke Halpin
The second effort involved the creation in 2010 of the focus section, The Remarkable Body of Luke Halpin.

Probably more than any other young actor in television history, Luke Halpin was admired not only for his acting talent, but also for his extraordinarily handsome physical image. Week after week, fans watched Luke's athletic form in action. Frequently dressed down to just cutoffs and canvas shoes, Luke Halpin's suntanned, lean-muscled body generated both amazement and excitement among fans around the world.

The Remarkable Body of Luke Halpin, then, was created with two aims:
--- 1. Promote appreciation of Luke Halpin's physical form
--- 2. Provide a more detailed look at the young actor's body using special galleries of images collected from throughout the website.

The focus section is comprised largely of special galleries which gather together selected pictures that illustrate details of Luke's body. Accompanying text discusses Luke's various muscles, pointing out their outstanding characteristics (e.g., definition, separation, muscle tone, and skin tone).

The Remarkable Body of Luke Halpin
is updated often, particularly when new expanded galleries are added to the site. Whenever new pictures are added to the site, they are examined for applicability to the focus section and added where appropriate.

The Luke Halpin Gallery is dedicated to both Luke Halpin and his many fans around the world.
